What types of speech services do we offer?

Articulation Therapy
Articulation therapy focuses on helping children produce speech sounds clearly and accurately. It targets specific speech sound errors, such as substituting one sound for another (like saying “tar” instead of “kar”) or omitting sounds (like saying “boo” instead of “blue”). These errors can make it difficult to understand what a child is trying to say. Through guided practice and repetition, children learn how to move their mouth, tongue, and lips correctly to improve their pronunciation and overall intelligibility.

Language Therapy
Language therapy addresses difficulties with understanding and using language. This can include receptive language (how a child understands words, directions, or questions) and expressive language (how they use words to express thoughts, needs, or ideas). Therapy may involve building vocabulary, forming sentences, using correct grammar, and developing storytelling or conversational skills appropriate for the child’s age.

Social Communication Therapy
Social communication therapy helps children develop the skills they need to interact effectively with others. This includes understanding and using nonverbal cues (like body language and facial expressions), taking turns in conversation, staying on topic, and understanding social rules in different settings. Therapy is often play-based and supports children in building meaningful connections with peers and adults.

Getting Started with Speech Therapy

We strive to make the process of starting speech therapy as smooth and supportive as possible for families. Services may begin in one of two ways:

  1. through a referral for a speech and language evaluation or

  2. by continuing services outlined in an existing Individualized Education Program (IEP).

If you prefer summer IEP continuation services and your child has an existing IEP with speech goals, we’ll work with you and your child’s educational team to continue services seamlessly. We’ll review the current goals, progress, and accommodations to ensure continuity of care in our therapy space.

If your child is not currently receiving services, the first step is an initial consultation or referral for a comprehensive evaluation. This assessment helps us understand your child’s strengths and areas of need across speech, language, and/or social communication. Based on the results, we’ll create an individualized therapy plan with clear goals tailored to support your child’s growth and success.

Once goals are established, we’ll begin regular therapy sessions either at our dedicated therapy space or on-site at your child’s daycare or preschool, depending on what works best for your family. Throughout the process, we prioritize collaboration, keeping parents informed and involved every step of the way.
